What does the patientMpower app do?

The patientMpower app is a digital solution for patients across a range of therapy areas including lung conditions, such as Pulmonary Fibrosis (PF), lung transplant and cystic fibrosis, kidney dialysis and kidney transplant. The app enables people to track their disease using integrated monitors, allowing them to better manage their treatment. We also provide a solution for healthcare professionals to monitor patients with COVID-19.

Can anyone use the patientMpower apps?

Anyone can download the patientMpower app, or the patientMpower for Cystic Fibrosis app. The app can be used with, or without, connected Bluetooth devices, to record health measurements along with tracking medications, appointments and more. The patientMpower for COVID-19 app is only for those people who have been requested by a healthcare professional to enrol in the COVID-19 remote monitoring programme. People asked to enrol on this programme have undergone careful review by trained healthcare professionals to ensure that home monitoring is suitable for them (e.g. mild to moderate disease).

How can I use the patientMpower app with or without my doctor or healthcare provider?

The patientMpower app can be used in two ways.

  1. Your healthcare provider may enrol you in a home monitoring programme for your health condition. You will use your patientMpower app, together with your connected devices, to monitor your health data - such as your lung function, blood pressure, and oxygen saturation. The data you record will be shared in real time with your healthcare team, which will enable them to track your progress while you are at home. For long-term conditions, remote monitoring may reduce the amount of times you need to attend clinical appointments in the hospital.
  2. You can also use the patientMpower app and the patientMpower app for Cystic Fibrosis without being enrolled by a healthcare professional. This will enable you to track your progress to better manage your own condition. You also have the option of downloading your health data to a report, or sharing your data directly with your healthcare professional. This can help you have valuable discussions with your healthcare team.

How can I download the app?

patientMpower

The patientMpower app can help people living with Pulmonary Fibrosis, Lung Transplant, Kidney Transplant, or Vasculitis. It gives you the tools to manage your condition and take control of your health.

patientMpower for COVID-19

The patientMpower for COVID-19 app is for people in the Republic of Ireland who have been enrolled in the COVID-19 remote monitoring programme by a healthcare professional.

patientMpower for COVID-19 (USA)

The patientMpower for COVID-19 app is for people in the USA who have been enrolled in the COVID-19 remote monitoring programme by a healthcare professional.

patientMpower for CF

patientMpower for CF empowers people living with CF to better manage your condition, and enables your healthcare team to monitor your health data whilst you are at home, between your normal clinic visits.

How often should I record my symptoms and health data?

If you have been enrolled by your clinician you will be instructed how often to record your data. If you have not been enrolled by a healthcare professional then the app will automatically prompt you when to record your health data based on your condition type.

Can I record my health data more often than the app prompts me to?

You can record your data more frequently than the app prompts you, should you wish to do so. However please be aware that if a healthcare professional has enrolled you in the patientMpower programme extra readings recorded outside of regular clinical hours may not be viewed by the clinical team. If you feel unwell or have deteriorating symptoms you should contact your General Practitioner or attend your local emergency department.

My Bluetooth device is not pairing.

  • Review the pairing videos here.
  • Remove the batteries from the device. Re-install the batteries and attempt to pair again.
  • Ensure the device has not connected with any other phones or tablets in your home. If it has, unpair from the other device.
  • Completely unpair the device from your phone if it is paired with the phone but not the app.
  • Go to your phone settings and find the patientMpower app. Clear the app’s storage or cache and try to repair the device again.

How is my health information being used?

  • Your health information can be used in two ways:
    1. If you were enrolled in a home monitoring programme by your healthcare provider your information may be reviewed by your healthcare team. Your healthcare provider may use patientMpower to monitor your progress between your normal clinic visits, or they may use it in conjunction with telephone or video calling to replace a face-to-face check-up.
    2. You will have the option of allowing your de-identified data to be shared with healthcare researchers to be used in research into your condition. If you consent your de-identified information (where you cannot be identified by your name or contact details) will be shared with approved healthcare researchers.

Patients enrolled in patientMpower's remote monitoring programme will use the patientMpower app, together with their connected devices, to monitor their health data such as lung function, blood pressure, oxygen saturation and more. The data record will be shared immediately with you as a member of the patient's healthcare team via a secure data monitoring portal. This will enable you to track the patient’s progress while they are at home, make informed decisions about their ongoing care and be alerted to early signs of deterioration.

How do I select a patient for enrollment on the patientMpower platform?

Any patient with access to a smartphone or tablet can be enrolled in the home monitoring programme. To use the remote monitoring program at home the patient will also need access to a cellular network or wifi connection. The patientMpower app has been designed with ease of use in mind and we have active users across a wide range of ages and social groups. however the patient would also need to have some tech awareness.
