New expert co-designed feature enables automation of routine clinical tasks, releasing time for patient care that matters
Digital healthcare company patientMpower have launched a new feature for their specialised remote monitoring platform; clinical workflow automation. The new feature enables healthcare professionals to automate routine clinical tasks, releasing time & capacity for high quality patient-centred care.
Workflow automation solutions are used in many industries to streamline processes and improve efficiency. But in healthcare, already over-burdened clinicians still perform many routine tasks manually. This means time-consuming protocols for standard processes, such as checking patients’ results, tying-up resources that could be otherwise spent on care delivery.
Expert Co-Designed
patientMpower worked with patients and leading clinical experts to develop specialised workflow automation tools that further increase the efficiency and quality of digital care. Automation of tasks, such as the follow-up of unusual self-monitored results or newly-reported symptoms, can free up clinical time and also enable quicker resolution of concerns for patients.
Clinicians and researchers at the ILD European Expert Centre at ERASMUS MC, Rotterdam, are among those involved in the design and testing of this innovation. This resulted in the adoption of workflow automation in the centre of excellence’s ILD home monitoring programme. The ERASMUS team, Prof Marlies Wijsenbeek, Dr Karen Moor and Delian Hofman, explain;
“Having worked alongside patientMpower to inform the development of this functionality, we have now implemented workflow automation in our ILD home monitoring programme at ERASMUS MC. We are currently investigating the impact of automation on patient care and patient self-management. We believe this will ultimately improve our capacity to deliver high quality patient care.”
Streamline Existing Workflows or Enable New Processes
patientMpower’s workflow automation solutions are fully customisable, meaning that clinicians have the option to replace single tasks, automate full end-to-end procedures or enable processes not otherwise possible with current resources. This particular solution does not use AI, so clinicians can be confident that automated actions are triggered only according to their own SOPs. And there is no special knowledge or technology skills required, with implementation being fully supported by patientMpower’s expert team.
Innovations Supporting Patient-Centred Healthcare
patientMpower’s new feature is just one of many new developments being delivered by the innovation-led company, including expansion into heart health monitoring and options for smart-phone free monitoring for wider patient inclusion.
Eamonn Costello, patientMpower CEO, explains how workflow automation aligns with wider strategy;
“Our mission at patientMpower has always been about empowering patient-centred healthcare. A key focus is developing technology that gives clinicians the tools, and importantly the time, to do what they do best; deliver high quality care. This is what workflow automation can do. Programmes using our technology have already demonstrated impactful improvements in patient outcomes, delivered only with existing clinical resources. Our new workflow automation functionality should further improve the efficiency of digital care, supporting higher quality and more cost-effective healthcare.”
