We are excited to share that our partners at Erasmus MC have published the SUITS study protocol: a multicentre randomised controlled trial investigating a new hybrid care pathway for people with pulmonary fibrosis.
Home spirometry is increasingly being adopted in ILD care, and studies have demonstrated this approach has good reliability and validity.
A key question is whether hybrid care can effectively reduce the need for routine hospital visits in pulmonary fibrosis. The SUITS study aims to address this by combining home spirometry, digital tools and video consultations to evaluate a more proactive and patient-centred model of care.
The primary endpoint is patient self-management, measured with the Patient Activation Measure (PAM). This reflects the broader shift in healthcare towards empowering patients, strengthening disease insight and supporting greater involvement in their own care.
Patients in the hybrid-care pathway are using the patientMpower solution to enable:
- Weekly home spirometry and pulse oximetry monitoring
- Regular patient-reported outcomes and symptom tracking
- Secure communication with healthcare professionals
- Video consultations replacing two of the four standard annual outpatient visits
